FTC COMFREY WARNING: External use only.
Consuming comfrey can cause serious liver damage. Comfrey contains
pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which may cause serious illness or death.
Comfrey should not be taken orally, used as a suppository, or
applied to broken skin. For further information contact the Food
and Drug Administration: http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov
The green drink is the epitome of refreshing,
living energy from plant sources. Each mouthful of the juice should
be "chewed" thoroughly (swished in the mouth) and mixed
well with saliva before swallowing.
Fresh greens, such as comfrey, parsley, mint,
lambs quarters, marshmallow (that is, common mallow), your dandelion
and other local greens, blended into a base of pineapple juice
in a blender. At first you may wish to strain out the pulp, but
it is good for you too, and soon you should become accustomed
to it. Some people make a green drink by simply blending the wildings
into water, straining out the pulp and sweetening a bit with pure
maple syrup or honey. This green drink supplies vitamins, minerals,
enzymes, and healing factors in a fresh, assimilable form.
Make the green drink by blending into apple
juice (or some pleasant tasting vegetable juice, such as fresh
carrot), comfrey, marshmallow root (mallow), parsley, spinach,
and other greens. Sweeten with honey and use a cup morning and
night (children in proportion). The use of grapes, grape juice
and raisins in an abundance is excellent in rebuilding an iron
deficient bloodstream.
The simplest method is to place pineapple juice
in a blender container in the quantity desired. Add green Alfalfa
leaves (or Alfalfa sprouts) to taste, less at first, and building
up to more as you become accustomed to the flavor. Alfalfa is
quite strong tasting; you might wish to begin with additional
herbs such as parsley, chard, dark lettuce, lamb's quarters, comfrey,
and other mild tasting greens. Two sprigs of Alfalfa has been
a good starting point for the green drink which we feed our young
children. Blend the greens into the drink until they are thoroughly
pulverized. You can add a little water or a couple of ice cubes
to thin the drink a bit if you like. Some people like to add an
almond-date-sunflower seed emulsion, made by blending the soaked
seeds and dates with pineapple juice, for a delicious and protein
filled green drink; however, we have found the pineapple juice
and green combination delicious and satisfying. For a tiny infant,
you can strain the fibers out of the drink, but most people can
benefit from the fibers of the greens. Do not make the drink too
thick at first, however, as some people might find it unpalatable.
Soak overnight in enough water to cover:
7 Almonds
4 Pitted Dates
Handful of Raw Sunflower Seeds
Next morning, pour in blender and add:
2-3 Handfuls of Greens
(Romaine, spinach, comfrey, parsley, mint, sprouts,
celery, carrot and beet tops, etc.)
Pineapple Juice to make 1 to 1&1/2 quart, total
Blend well, store in a jar in the refrigerator.
Will keep 2 days although it tastes best when fresh.
2 ounces Comfrey root, cut (symphytum officinale)
1 quart D-cell or distilled water
6 ounces Honey
2 ounces Glycerine
Preparation: Soak the root in water for 12 hours.
Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain, then
filter and squeeze through muslin or linen cloth. Return liquor
(liquid) to the cleansed vessel, add the honey and glycerine,
simmer for 5 minutes and set aside to cool. Placing in a wide-mouthed
bottle and keep in a cool place.
Dosage: Coughs, raw or sore throat, slight hemorrhage:
1 wine glassful every hour until tissues are healed and coughing
stops.
Popular with the whole family as well as a lady with morning sickness,
and it is surely more wholesome than the sugared varieties purchased
at stores.
Bring 2 gallons of water to a boil with 1 tablespoon ground Ginger.
Allow to cool to lukewarm and strain. Add two cups of honey to
the water-Ginger mixture and stir well. Add the juice of four
lemons and just 1/4 teaspoon of dry baking yeast (wine yeast would
work even better but is less available). Put into absolutely clean
gallon jars and cover lightly. Allow to stand for two days. It
should be nice and sparkly by now. If it gets too sparkly, refrigerate.

This broth cleans the blood and helps with
the flu.
Peel, slice and dice fine 3-4 white onions,
add 12oz. steam distilled water and low simmer 25-30 minutes (covered).
Salt and pepper to taste. Drink the broth only.
Juice of 1/2 fresh lemon
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon honey
Stir well into 8oz. of HOT water. Drink**
while hot, jump into bed and sweat.
**Note: It is
best to keep the herbs stirred as you drink since they like to
settle on the bottom.
Good source of calcium.
After breaking the clean eggshell
open, be careful to pull out the small membrane that lines the
shell. (Best to use eggs from free-roaming chickens...check at
your local health food store) This membrane is high in cholesterol
and it is wise to eliminate it. Dry the shells at room temperature
or under 130 °F. When thoroughly dry, powder the shells in
a blender, nut mill or with a rolling pin. When the powder from
one dozen eggshells is ready and finely powdered, cover with one
pint of apple cider vinegar or one pint of lemon juice (lemon
juice will sour and spoil quicker than the apple cider vinegar).
Mix the eggshell powder and liquid in a large container, because
the chemical reaction will cause the solution to foam. Allow this
to set for several days. Then strain and combine with honey and
water (to taste).
For the adult, use two or more tablespoons
(or add to distilled water, tea or juice if desired) and for children
in proportion. Some people like to add a tablespoon of honey for
each tablespoon of the vinegar-calcium mix, as this is a great
help in adjusting the hydrochloric acid balance in the body as
well as feeding calcium to the system
(strengthening, soothing and healing of inflamed
surfaces)
The powder made into a mucilage beverage or gruel
is a bland and nutritive food for babies, the elderly, or convalescents
(it possesses as much nutrition as oatmeal, and is an excellent
sustaining food). The gruel is a valuable remedy in all cases
of weakness, pulmonary complaints, stomach inflammation, diarrhea,
lung hemorrhage, etc.
1/2 tsp. Slippery elm, powder (Ulmus fulva)
1/2 pint Raw milk**
1 tsp. Honey
dash Cinnamon or nutmeg, powdered
Make a paste out of the slippery elm and honey (press
out the lumps); bring the milk to a boil and stir in the slippery
elm mixture as the milk reaches the boiling point. Remove from
the heat and stir 5-10 seconds, adding the cinnamon or nutmeg.
If the finished product contains lumps of slippery elm run it
through a blender for a few seconds.
**NOTE: We found
soy milk will also work with this recipe.
This simple recipe is very delicious and satisfying.
Simmer red potatoes, celery, carrots, onions, garlic,
herbs and whatever other vegetables you like in distilled water
until tender. When it's done, add tamari soy sauce to taste. You
can blend this in the blender if you like.
Make the broth with potato peelings at least
one half inch thick, comfrey leaves, celery leaves, cut-up celery
stalks, a few carrot tops from the garden, not wild, beet greens,
spinach greens, chopped onions and garlic and several whole, black
peppercorns as a stimulant and digestant. Cover the mixture well
with distilled water and slowly simmer. If possible, keep the
temperature around 130 degrees for six to ten hours. Do not boil.
After simmering, strain the preparation. Use this broth between
meals as you might a tasty tea being sure to chew it well.
A rough parallel to the intravenous solutions
that are administered in hospitals and similar to the electrolyte
drinks that are sold commercially. Good for giving children instead
of the commercially available solution
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup honey (use maple syrup for babies)
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 crushed dolomite tablet
Mix into enough water to make one quart, refrigerate. This is
a good mixture for restoring energy and also for taking after
vomiting, such as during morning sickness.
This stops the onset of shock as well as
warming the body, increasing circulation, raising the blood sugar
to provide energy, and preventing hemorrhage danger.
1 cup of warm distilled water
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1/8 cup honey
1 full teaspoonful of cayenne or 1 dropper of cayenne extract.
1 pound Garlic cloves, peeled and minced or
chopped (Allium sativum)
Equal parts Apple cider vinegar and distilled water (or D-cell
water), sufficient to cover the garlic.
1 pint Glycerine
3 pounds Pure honey
Place the garlic into a wide mouth jar, cover
with the vinegar and water; close, shake well together; allow
to stand in a cool place for 4 days, macerating (shaking thoroughly)
1-2 times daily; add the glycerine, shake and allow to stand another
day; strain with pressure and filter through muslin or thin linen
cloth; add the honey and stir until thoroughly mixed; seal the
jar tightly and keep in a cool place. Take 1 teaspoonful - 1 tablespoonful
3-4 times daily between meals.
Rejuvelac is really cheap, and yet provides
the ferments which can help restore proper intestinal flora.
Soak one cup of organic wheat--previously
washed--for forty-eight hours in three cups of distilled water
in a cool environment. Pour off the soaking water, but do not
throw it away, as it is an extremely rich source of enzymes...this
is the Rejuvelac. Drink as a health beverage, refrigerate. Use
the same seed to make a second and third batch, not rinsing the
seed in between. These batches need soak only twenty-four hours.
2 teaspoonfuls of apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoonfuls of honey
Mix in a glass of steam distilled water three times a day.
Vermont folk medicine practitioners, although they
do not distinguish between arthritis, bursitis, rheumatism, gout,
osteoarthritis, etc., have been successful in treating all these
diseases with this formula. The apple cider vinegar creates an
acidic medium which is capable of dissolving excess inorganic
calcium--even if it is in the form of arthritic deposits in the
joints.
OPTIONAL: (If you want an
even healthier drink, add a little bit of black strap molasses
(1 tablespoon) and some cayenne (start with just a pinch then
work your way up to 1 teaspoon or 1 tablespoon; or1/3 dropper
up to 1 full dropper of cayenne extract).
The allopathic drug popular for "ulcer
management" is Tagamet. This stops the production of hydrochloric
acid by the stomach. We want to regulate the production of acid.
Whether there is too much or not enough, this formula will be
a great aid:
1 tbsp. raw honey
1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
Mix in a glass of steam distilled water and drink. Take this formula
1/2 hour before meals.
2 cups of dry soy beans will make approximately
1 gallon of soy milk. Adjust recipe if you wish to make less.
2 cups organic soy beans
Soak in double amount of water overnight (8-10 hours). Replacing
water at least 1 time (2 preferable)
Drain and rinse beans. Grind beans (add ¾
c. beans to blender and 1¾ c. water at a time). Blend till
it looks like oatmeal. Pour into large heavy pot
NOT
ALUMINUM OR TEFLON. It is preferrable to use stainless
steel, glass or enamel.
Add:
1/2 cup brown rice (optional
makes a creamier, better tasting
milk)
1/3 piece of vanilla bean (optional
can use 1 ½ teas.
vanilla extract when milk is finished)
Bring to a slow boil (stir constantly), then turn down heat. Simmer
for 30-40 minutes. (I put a lid on and cook on low or simmer.)
If heat is low enough you will not have to stir. If it still starts
to scorch
you need to add more water. Try 1 cup at a time.
Pour through a strainer first to remove bulk of
sludge, pressing sludge to get out milk. Line a colander
with a thin cloth (several layers of cheese cloth works well)
and set it up over a big bowl or another pot. Pour some of strained
milk into colander. Let drain
then pick up ends of cloth
bring together and twist to squeeze out milk. It helps to wear
kitchen gloves since the milk is hot.
When strained. Season to taste with:
Sea salt
Honey
Olive oil (optional -approx. 1 tablespoon)
Be careful not to add too much water. It should
be thick like cream (or paint) in consistency. Refrigerate, enjoy!
A power-packed drink which helps with hypoglycemia.
1 handful soaked or sprouted almonds
1-2 cups of water
1 banana
1 cup pineapple juice
1 tablespoon brewer's yeast
1 handful chia seeds
Blend until the seeds thicken the drink. This is mild but very
helpful in feeding high vibration protein to the system.
An old-time remedy for coughs.
2-3 large onions, chopped
honey, enough to cover onions by 1/2"
Licorice root (powder) or horehound herb or wild cherry bark (optional)
Cover the onions with liquid honey, so the honey
is at least one half inch above the onions in the pan, use stainless
steel, glass or enamel. Low heat (under 130° or below simmer)
for several hours, or all night, if desired , on very low heat
in a double boiler (I use a smaller pot in my slow cooker, with
a rack in the bottom and about 2-3 inches of water). Strain and
press out the liquid and use it as a cough syrup.
Optional - for each pint of liquid honey used, add
one ounce (more or less as desired) of licorice root (powder)
or the same amount of horehound herb or wild cherry bark. Add
when the honey and onions are put together at the beginning. Any
one of these three mentioned herbs is a very fine expectorant
and demulcent herb and is used to aid in breaking up phlegm and
discharging it. This remedy is good for clearing out the lungs
and bronchials and also disperses itself throughout the whole
system with great benefit.
One teaspoon each fifteen minutes or half
hour, as needed. Hold the syrup in the mouth and let it trickle
down the throat slowly. Do not drink or eat after to allow the
syrup to "stick" to the throat.
